Four-year Merlin inquiry dropped by SFO

Sir Christopher Evans, the biotechnology entrepreneur and Labour donor who became embroiled in the cash-for-honours investigation, has survived his second brush with investigators after the Serious Fraud Office dropped a probe into his flagship company.

The SFO said it had decided to scrap the Merlin Biosciences case for lack of evidence, after more than four years looking into allegations of impropriety relating to millions of pounds of investments held in one of the business’ funds.
