US convicts bin Laden’s driver

A military jury at Guantánamo Bay on Wednesday found Salim Hamdan, a former driver for Osama bin Laden, guilty of supporting terrorism, marking the end of the first US war crimes trial since the second world war.

The jury of six military officers found Mr Hamdan guilty of supporting terrorism, a conviction that could see him spend the rest of his life behind bars. But they acquitted the Yemeni national on charges of conspiring with al-Qaeda.
