Bush faces isolation on climate at G8 talks

George W. Bush last night appeared in danger of becoming isolated at this week's summit of the world's eight richest nations after Tony Blair, the British prime minister, backed German proposals for long-term targets to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate change will dominate what should be a tense three-day G8 summit beginning on Wednesday as Germany, present chairman of the club, and the US squabble over global warming.
