Romney calls UN an ‘extraordinary failure’

Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential hopeful, has dismissed the United Nations as an “extraordinary failure” and voiced support for a coalition of “free nations” as an alternative to the UN.

The former Massachusetts governor singled out the UN Human Rights Council for repeatedly criticising Israel while ignoring repressive regimes elsewhere in the world. “The United Nations has been an extraordinary failure of late,” said Mr Romney, in response to a question at a campaign event in South Carolina.
