Private equity: Gaining acceptance

Private equity in Japan has come a long way since Ripplewood shocked the business community with its acquisition of the nationalized Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan in 1999.

Although private equity firms are still struggling to shake off their popular image as vulture funds, over the past several years there has been a striking improvement among Japanese business leaders, in the level of understanding and acceptance of the role that private equity funds can play.
