Breakdown disrupts FTSE trade

Shares trading was severely disrupted yesterday, with barely an hour of trade sandwiched either side of a seven-hour computer breakdown of the London Stock Exchange.

Markets initially surged in reaction to the US government’s move to take control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. A communication failure then crashed LSE pricing, leaving trading floors close to silent.
