Porto Santo: Marketing tranquillity and luxury

For a tiny island seeking to recommend itself to the world as a haven of peace and seclusion, Porto Santo could not hope to find a better advocate than the Irish writer Samuel Beckett, whose need for privacy and solitude was legendary.

Beckett spent almost three months on the island in the winter of 1968 and 1969, recovering from a lung complaint and escaping the pressures of fame.
