High Court rejects control orders on six terror suspects

Control orders keeping six terror suspects under house arrest were quashed yesterday by a High Court judge who ruled the measure breached the Human Rights Act.

The judgment challenges a central plank of Tony Blair's strategy to combat terrorism and could lead to an overhaul of how control orders are used. The measures were introduced last year amid vehement parliamentary opposition and after a detention regime in Belmarsh prison in south-east London was ruled illegal.
