Carmakers call for consumer boost

Britain's carmakers are urging the government to adopt radical, one-off stimulus measures to boost consumer confidence after another sharp slide in auto sales in September.

The plea comes as Europe's motor industry prepares today to call in Brussels for €40bn (£31.1bn) in loans and incentives aimed at re-animating the continent's plummeting car markets.
