Infrastructure: Soccer contest focuses minds on poor roads

Poland’s feeble progress in building a modern highway network has been a singular failing over the past 20 years, but the resulting traffic nightmare is proving to be something of a boon for Jerzy Zakrzewski.

That is because the company he runs, Zurad, is the country’s only maker of roadside radars that are springing up to try to cut one of the highest per capita road death rates in the European Union.
