The head of the UK’s main franchising body has written to several of the major employers that have announced job cuts in recent weeks, urging them to get their soon-to-be-redundant staff to consider buying a franchise.

Brian Smart, director general of the British Franchise Association, has offered to organise free workplace seminars if any of the companies are interested in taking up his proposal.
