British financial investigators are probing the alleged $50bn Bernard Madoff fraud after seeing evidence gathered by his empire’s provisional London liquidators.

The Serious Fraud Office said on Thursday it had launched a full investigation after receiving an interim report from Grant Thornton, the accounting firm.
