Pakistan's main Islamic coalition on Sunday said it would increase protests from January 1 against General Pervez Musharraf, the pro-US military ruler, for his refusal to retire from the military this month.

Analysts said it was too early to predict if Gen Musharraf, who has been in power for more than five years, now faced a significant threat to his regime.
