Greene King has moved to capitalise on its recent share price strength to launch a £208m deeply discounted rights issue, becoming the first pub group to test investor’s appetite for paper in the heavily indebted sector.

The issue – three new shares for every five held – is priced at 270p, 48 per cent below Wednesday’s 553p closing price.
