Tackling ‘ownerless’ corporations

The issue of “ownerless corporations” was in the news again last week as UK Treasury minister Lord Myners told the BBC of his concerns that high frequency trading would make companies “the playthings of speculators”.

Share trading is taking over from share ownership and the function of the stock market, to allocate capital to businesses, is being undermined, he said.
