Advertising industry gloom deepens

Almost half of companies cut their advertising budgets in the fourth quarter of 2008, a quarterly survey of the industry has found, with spending set to fall even further in 2009.

According to the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising’s Bellwether report, which is seen as an indicator of broader economic confidence, marketing spending is facing more drastic cuts than at any time in the last nine years.
