Obamania reached China on Wednesday as excitement about the victory of Barack Obama overshadowed lingering doubts in Beijing about the Democratic party.

Within hours of the result being confirmed, China Daily, the official English language paper, published a piece by two columnists who said they were “elated” by Mr Obama’s success.
