Musharraf strikes deal with Bhutto

General Pervez Musharraf has reached an agreement with exiled opposition leader Benazir Bhutto under which he will resign as military chief in exchange for her party’s support for his re-election as president.

Speaking to the FT from London on Wednesday night, Ms Bhutto said: “This matter [of Gen Musharraf’s military position] has been satisfactorily resolved. This is now for the presidency [in Pakistan] to confirm.”
