BoI loss close to €1bn after lifting charge

Bank of Ireland swung to an interim pre-tax loss of almost €1bn after lifting the impairment charge on loans to property developers and to other borrowers fivefold to €1.8bn (£1.6bn).

The loss of €979m compares with a pre-tax profit of €647m for the six months to September 30 last year.
