Document charge highlights fees dispute

The row over UK Supreme Court document charges is part of a bigger dispute over rising lawsuit fees that critics say risk shutting poorer people out of the justice system and adding unreasonably to companies’ legal expenses.

Lobby groups ranging from the City of London Law Society to Citizens Advice have raised concerns about civil court case price increases that, according to official estimates, will soon have added about 25 per cent to users’ costs in just two years.
