Pat Davies: Pay-off time for Sasol pioneers?

Apartheid-era South Africa was a relic of the age of colonialism, but in one respect it pointed the way to the future. Unable to produce or import the oil it needed, it was forced to invest in technologies to produce fuel from alternative sources, particularly coal.

Pat Davies, the chief executive of Sasol, the company that pioneered that effort, argues that in the years to come, other countries will increasingly find themselves in the same predicament.
