Sony Ericsson, the mobile phone maker, registered a sharp jump in shipments in the second quarter but fell short of profit expectations as continued pricing pressure and stronger sales of low-end devices kept the squeeze on margins.
The Japanese-Swedish joint venture said yesterday it delivered 11.8m units in the three months to the end of June as the company continued to expand its product range. Shipments were up more than a quarter over the 9.4m phones delivered in the first quarter.
