Georgian talks fail to break deadlock

Mikheil Saakashvili, the president of Georgia, held talks with the opposition on Monday but failed to break the political deadlock in the former Soviet country where protesters are calling for him to step down.

“It is not at all easy to reach a compromise,” Mr Saakashvili said at the end of a 2½-hour meeting with opposition leaders.
