I can’t say if I was ever in love with Carlos. In the 1970s and 1980s this man, whose real name is Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, was the world’s most dangerous terrorist. He is believed to have killed more than 80 people. I was his girlfriend, married him and gave birth to his only child.

When I first met him in 1975, I was part of the German terrorist group Revolutionary Cells in Frankfurt and the girlfriend of one of its members, Johannes Weinrich. We wanted to rebel against our Nazi parents and change society.
