Economic conditions for British businesses in the fourth quarter of last year were the worst for 20 years, according to the latest quarterly survey from the British Chambers of Commerce.

The survey, which began in 1989, “highlights a frightening deterioration in the UK economic situation”, according to the BCC, whose members are mainly small to medium-sized enterprises.
