Andy Hornby (pictured below), the former chief executive of HBOS, is set to become the chief executive of Alliance Boots, in a move that could enable him to restore his standing.

Mr Hornby’s reputation was badly damaged when HBOS came to the brink of collapse last year when the financial crisis was at its height.
