Not many people who leave school at 15 go on to establish a multi-million pound company, but that has been the achievement of Tom Smith.
After starting out working with companies in the North Sea oilfields, today Nessco has about 150 employees supplying telecoms services to oil and gas platforms and vessels all over the world, as well as managing satellite links to the British Antarctic Survey.
