After the unveiling of Joe Biden as Barack Obama’s vice-presidential nominee on Saturday, attention will shift to John McCain’s choice of running mate on the Republican ticket.

Mr McCain is expected to announce his decision soon after the end of the Democratic convention on Thursday in an attempt to seize attention from Mr Obama ahead of the Republican convention the following week.
