Telecom Corp ordered to open network to rivals

The New Zealand government on Wednesday ordered Telecom Corp, the nation’s biggest listed company, to open its local networks to competitors in the most significant shake-up of the industry since it was privatised in 1989.

The surprise decision, announced after the local market had closed, triggered a 7 per cent fall in Telecom’s value on the Australian Stock Exchange, its biggest slump in almost four years.
