The plight of Africa may have been at the forefront of public attention in the run-up to this week's summit of the Group of Eight leading industrial nations.

But for some time now it has been the other big issue on the summit agenda - the need to address climate change - that risked turning the meeting in Gleneagles, Scotland, into a shouting match.
