Prodi pledges labour market reform

Romano Prodi, Italy’s new prime minister, vowed on Thursday that his government would restore fiscal discipline as a matter of urgency in order to win the confidence of world financial markets.

In his first policy speech since he took office on Wednesday, Mr Prodi also said the government would revise a law on labour market flexibility passed by the previous centre-right government of Silvio Berlusconi.
