Condoleezza Rice's tour of Europe this week looks set to be dominated by allegations about secret US prisons, abduction and the use of torture.
But it is not just the US secretary of state who is on the spot. America's European partners and allies - ranging from Spain to Romania - are also in the line of fire. Governments in western Europe, where suspicions of Washington are more pronounced than in the east, have been pressed by media and the judiciary to reveal whether they have co-operated with US security services.
