Brussels in call for EU countries to open doors to eastern workers

The European Commission yesterday urged western Europe to open its doors fully to citizens from the new member states in the east, as the Brussels body attempted to cajole countries into lifting curbs imposed on millions of workers.

The Commission said east-west migration was determined by supply and demand rather than by older EU members' restrictions on workers from the eight former communist countries
