US regulators close to agreeing net neutrality rules

US regulators have taken a significant step towards implementing so-called net neutrality rules, with a majority vote by the Federal Communications Commission in favour of six “open internet” principles.

Technology companies such as Google hope the rules will preserve the free flow of information online by preventing internet service providers from favouring or blocking traffic over their landlines and wireless connections.
