Boost for Pennsylvania Turnpike privatisation

Opponents of the world’s largest toll road privatisation have suffered a significant blow after the US Federal Highway Administration rejected part of an alternative to a $12.8bn leasing of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The publicly-owned Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission wanted federal permission to turn 311 miles of US Interstate-80 through Pennsylvania into a toll road under an act passed by Pennsylvania’s state legislature last year.
