Twenty years ago today, Lech Walesa led the anti-Communist opposition into semi-free elections that thrashed the Party and opened the way to a free and democratic country.
The anniversary, however, is proving to be a mixed one for the former leader.Instead of basking in praise for his role in ending Communism, Mr Walesa has been fending off attacks from right-wing opponents who accuse him of being a Communist stooge who betrayed the country.
