New US clients buoy Brambles profit

Brambles, the world’s biggest supplier of pallets, lifted full-year profit from continuing operations by 36 per cent aided by a strong performance from its US business.

The result comes as the Australia-listed group is buffeted by persistent takeover talk prompted by continued stake-building by Asciano, an infrastructure group, which by Wednesday was known to have increased its holding from 3.2 per cent to 3.8 per cent.
