Julius Baer and UBS bear the brunt

European stock markets lurched downwards on Monday, ending a three-day winning streak, as problems at UK lender Bradford & Bingley sent shudders through the banking sector.

The FTSE Eurofirst 300 fell 1.1 per cent to 1,319.13 points as investors used worries in the British banking sector as a cue to take profits after last week’s rally.
