Who is looking out for consumers in their dealings with the financial services industry, and are they doing the job effectively?

This is one of the important questions consumers might hope would be raised in the review of the regulatory system currently underway at the Treasury, particularly given the concerns over the loss of consumer confidence in the savings industry that the Commons Treasury Committee has been investigating for some months.
