White sugar prices reach 25-year high

White sugar prices jumped to their highest in more than 25 years as the market braced for India, the world’s largest consumer, to tap the global market to offset the impact of a poor monsoon on the country’s sugarcane crop.

White and raw sugar prices – an important input to the food and drinks industry – have surged about 60 per cent since January and almost doubled in the past 12 months.
