Botín takes laurels for gains in Italy and Brazil

Emilio Botín, chairman of Santander, has adopted an unusually low profile in the battle for ABN-Amro. But analysts agree that Spain’s top banker has pulled off one of the best deals of his intensely acquisitive career.

Deutsche Bank said in an investment note: “In our view, Santander has the best earnings per share impact of the [Royal Bank of Scotland-led] consortium, without including any tax breaks.”
