Ringgit surges amid talk of repegging

The Malaysian ringgit hit a two-week high against the dollar on Monday on speculation that the currency would be repegged against the US currency.

The talk was sparked by comments from Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister, who said that Malaysia could insulate itself from the global slowdown by fixing its exchange rate against the dollar.
