Sainsbury steps up price competition

Justin King, chief executive of J Sainsbury, forecast a “feisty” Christmas as the big-four supermarkets battle to persuade cash-strapped shoppers to spend more.

It also emerged that David Tyler had met the Qatar Investment Authority prior to his appointment as Sainsbury’s chairman, and that he detected no change in its stance from that of being a long-term shareholder.
