Scientists await UK stem-cell decision

Britain’s world leadership in stem-cell research could be at stake as scientists await an important decision on whether they can override government hostility to pursue a promising new avenue of research.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority meets on Wednesday to debate whether to allow animal eggs to be used to produce cloned human embryos, aiming to overcome a severe shortage of human eggs.
