SPD plans to curb German executive salaries

Shareholders in Germany could find it easier to claim damages from company directors who grant top managers excessive salaries under proposals unveiled on Monday by the ruling Social Democratic party.

The proposed reform is the latest idea being floated by Germany’s two ruling parties in an effort to woo voters as the general election of September 2009 nears. The SPD and the rival Christian Democrats were forced into a “grand coalition” after an electoral draw in 2005.
