Wind industry welcomes offshore farms push

A huge expansion of offshore wind farms was proposed by the government on Wednesday as it launched the latest licensing round for coastal sites that could provide 25,000 megawatts of electricity – equal to a third of the country’s generation capacity.

The wind industry described the launch of the round by the Crown Estate, which manages royal property for the Treasury and owns most of the seabed territory around the UK, as “fantastic news”.
