UK reaps reward of accepting new EU labour

Like many British transport operators First Bus has faced problems finding reliable drivers. But now the company believes it has found a solution - thanks to the eastward enlargement of the European Union in May.

Since then the company has turned to drivers and engineers from Poland to meet its recruitment needs. It is so pleased with the 56 men hired for its Bath and Bristol operations that it is considering extending the effort throughout the UK, where it employs 20,000 drivers.
