Businesswoman brands quotas as 'humiliating'

One of the top businesswomen in France on Thursday condemned quotas as a "humiliating" way to advance women in the workplace.

Anne Lauvergeon, chief executive of Areva, the French nuclear energy company, said she favoured other ways of ensuring equal status for women in business, such as close monitoring of the balance of recruitment and a policy of promoting the woman if male and female candidates were equally competent.
