From Prof Jagdish Bhagwati.
Sir, Your suggestion ("World Bank choice", February 21) that Ernesto Zedillo, the former president of Mexico, should be appointed head of the World Bank, is an excellent one. But you might have mentioned that the two most frequently cited American candidates, Peter McPherson, president of Michigan State University and a successful former head of USaid, and Stanford professor John Taylor, now at the US Treasury and a distinguished economist who has the better of the argument on whether aid should be in the form of grants or loans, are worthy of serious consideration.
