Thai army accused of torture in report

Members of Thailand’s army are torturing suspects in their campaign to suppress the long-running insurgency in the south of the country, according to a report by Amnesty International.

“Thai security forces have systematically relied on torture and other cruel punishments to obtain information, to extract confessions and to intimidate detainees and their communities into withholding or withdrawing support for the insurgents,” the human rights organisation said.
